eSports - InfinityWard versus The Community

2009-10-20 21:37:40 / E-sport / Av: 51

A few day's ago InfinityWards community manager Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling had a talk with bashandslash. They talked about the fact that Call of Duty MW2 will be released on time and squashed the rumours about the game being delayed.

At the top of the list InfinityWard anounced a new system called IW.net but that means that there will be no deticated servers and no room for any of the mods that make the game work in a competitive environment. For a modification such as promod to work it would have to be approved and then incorporated into IW.net.

They also announced that they will be working with another anti-cheat program namely VAC (Valve-Anti-Cheat from Steam, many Counterstrike players are known with this anti-cheat client.

After that being announced the community found themselves being left out.  Some random guy made a petition and that was spammed everywhere like Facebook to Twitter, from Youtube to Google News. In this petition they are asking InfinityWard too make deticated servers. Currently this petition has 106426 signatures, something like that InfinityWard just can't ignore.

Luckily for the CoD scene it looks like they haven't ignored it. The official thread on the InfinityWard forums has not been deleted, something that highlights just how much money they will lose if everyone on the petition list doesn't buy the game (over 5 million dollars currently), and we have also seen rumours that they are going to properly look at the situation.

This image appeared on the internet, from a private message on Twitter from Robert Bowling. Though it doesn't say anything specific, it certainly does sound better than things did a few days ago:

There has also been an image circulating around showing the InfinityWard Steam group, from a "new game IP port in a range that looks very similar to to a dedi-server". Could InfinityWard be trying out dedicated servers? You can find the image of the Steam group on the bashandslash site here.
